Insulation Wholesalers Backer Rod is a CFC free closed cell polyethylene foam rod that provides a backing material primarily for use with elastomeric and PU sealants or any cold applied sealants.

Backer Rod has Three Major Functions:-

• To control the depth of the sealant in proper relation to the joint width.
• To provide a backing against which the sealant is applied. Forcing the sealant to the sides of the joint.
• To prevent 3 sided bonding, ensuring proper functioning of the joint sealant.

Joint Sealant

Follow instructions for joint sealant application as directed by sealant manufacturer.


Where priming of the joint is necessary, primer should be applied only to the joint surfaces and allowed to dry before backer Rod is installed. DO NOT PRIME BACKER ROD

Instructions For Use

• Joint or opening must be free of all contaminants be clean and dry.
• Select correct rod size for joint width, the rod should have 25% greater width to ensure that it remain firmly in place during application of sealant.
• When installing the rod it is essential to use a blunt instrument or roller to avoid puncturing the surface. This may result in bubbles to appear in the curing sealant. Press the rod uniformly into the joint to the predetermined depth without any twists, bumps, gaps or stretching.
